Just because the water might be too cold to swim in, doesn’t mean you cannot go out on the water. Wrightsville Beach is one of the most beautiful areas in North Carolina. Cruise along the award-winning riverwalk from the river for a unique viewpoint. There are also cruises that will take you down the riverside of many historic homes and movie locations. For those nature enthusiasts, there are cruises along the black river where you can see the cypress swamp rivers almost as they appeared to the early explorers.

Historical Sites

History buffs are going to love the Wilmington Area historical sites. Here you can see the remains of the Cold War fort and an impressive reconstruction of a 32-pound seacoast gun at Shepard’s Battery. Moore’s Creek National Battlefield is also one of the nearby Historical sites. This battlefield held one of the many battles of the American Revolutionary War and its victory was the first one of significance for the patriots. Lastly, one of the first fast Battleships to join the American fleet in World War II was the USS North Carolina.
