We were there for a week in September. This is a great old fashioned beach cottage. It’s right at the beach access so very convenient especially if you have small children. Plenty of bedrooms for everyone. The only negative thing is the fact that there is no storage for groceries. None. Nada. We put ours on top of the refrigerator.

We were a family of 9. Chequers had plenty of bed space and a beautiful wrap around porch (though dunes obstruct beach views from porch - disclosed in description beforehand.) Common areas were a challenge for our larger group, but again, we knew this going in as it's a 1940s cottage. Dining is either around the counter or on the porch. As we live in the area we brought a 6' banquet table and folding chairs to add to the existent porch table and that allowed us to eat together. Not too hot for us, as it was in the shade and in June. It might be a challenge later in the summer. We enjoyed having easy access to the beach and to downtown Wrightsville Beach. Parking is a slight challenge (as it always is at WB) with some jostling for street spots (2 street passes are included with the rental and the house has 2-3 spots, depending on car size.) Kitchen is well stocked.

Our Easter vacation stay at this charming cottage couldn't have been better! The oceanfront location was perfect, the porch offered relaxing moments & having adequate parking for our whole family was a big plus. Comfy beds, nice linens, stellar oceanfront views. We couldn't have asked for more!

A delightful stay at this cottage...very rustic and definitely not fancy, but hey, it's the beach. I do wish that you could see the ocean from the first floor windows, but the dunes are built go upstairs to enjoy looking at the ocean.
A couple of simple amenities are needed: a light over the stove, and a drain plug for each of the baths. As creepy as it might seem, my family likes to take baths, even when we travel. Overall a nice experience.

I believe there are some bathtub stoppers under the sink in each bathroom but I will definitely make note to double check on my next inspection there, placing new ones if needed! The house is dated but I knew that from the reviews. Water views are only from upstairs windows but steps from beach is perfect.
House needs a lot of TLC. Open windows come slamming down and can be a hazard. The property was not cleaned to expectations and I made the agency aware. Dust was thick on many surfaces. Once I cleaned (having gone to the store for supplies) it was a pleasant vacation. More dining seating on the porch would be helpful since the house accommodates 12 but seating is for 6. Maybe even a simple wood picnic table would do.

Be sure to let us know about any cleanliness issues on arrival before cleaning yourself so we can send a housekeeper out to fix anything you desire. The property is regularly dusted on each clean but as with any older house, it can gather quickly especially if there are a couple days between rentals as with your stay. Nonetheless, we will flag this issue to our housekeeping team to continue to encourage our high cleaning standards. The picnic table is a wonderful idea and I will definitely add that to our owner suggestions file for our property managers to review with them this off season. The deck has a bunch of white rocking chairs the owner recently painted for additional seating outside. We hope you enjoyed your quick trip to the beach and hope you will visit with us again next time.

Great "Old School" Beach Rental

The house is everything we needed from a beach rental! The pictures do a great job of showing you the space. The house has enough room for 12 people to sleep comfortably, great outdoor space (including shade on some part of the porch at all points during the day), and 2 outdoor showers. The owners included a history of the area and the house, which was a very fun read. The house is in a wonderful location with the beach access right out the front door. There are plenty of restaurants (go to Tower 7!), Roberts market, and shops just blocks away.

Another review mentioned a lack of "pantry" space, which is definitely true; the counters fill up quickly. (There's a hallway downstairs that gave us a little more space for food storage; a shelf in that area would be useful!)

Everyone we worked with at Bryant Real Estate was friendly. This is the second time we've rented through them, and we will definitely use them in the future.

We had a great visit - this house was perfect. Our group was two families, each with two children. The layout was perfect and the location is awesome. We felt like this could not have been better! It feels like a classic beach cottage, which was cozy. We felt like it couldn't have been better.

The location of the house is central to everything and perfect for relaxing on the beach. The house itself is in need of some love. The furniture was worn and stained- not very inviting. There are no cabinets to put any food in, so the counters were cramped. They also lacked plastic plates and cups for eating outside. We did enjoy the comfortable rocking chairs for sitting on the porch.

Steps from the beach and appreciate the historic vintage feel. Plenty of space for 6 people, each of us had our own beds. View of the ocean from 2 of the 3 upstairs bedrooms. Property is clean, air conditioning excellent for both floors, and beds are comfy. We prepared all of our meals in. There's plenty of dishes, glasses and pots/pans/utensils. We did bring our own spices, knives, small camping/portable grill, extra TP, paper towels/plates, garbage bags, extra dishtowels and beach towels (as recommended). We really enjoyed eating all of our meals outside on the shaded front porch, it has such a good cross breeze in the front corner. Rocking chairs are a nice touch. We had a minor problem with stovetop and maintenance came quickly and fixed it in 5 mins. The 2 outdoor showers with warm water helps to rinse off before going in the house. This was a perfect place to stay during the pandemic. It's located between 2 lifeguard stands, therefore just a little less crowded on the beach. Walk left for the downtown or turn right for Johnnie Mercers. Took nightly walks on the beach for stargazing. One night we were blessed to experience a rare bioluminescent plankton, which made the sand in your footsteps sparkle with glittering light. Very relaxing stay and we will come back again.

The house was in a wonderful location. Could walk to restaurants and a little grocery. An older house that truly gave us the real feeling of being at the beach.

Chequers is a great house- great location near town and beach access. Front porch is wonderful!
House does need more kitchen supplies and a place to put food. We moved dishes so we had a place for groceries. There were no baking sheets, not enough serving bowls.
Furniture on the side porch would be awesome as the front was often too sunny and hot.

Fun location, close to shops, restaurants & beach! Unfortunately smaller than we wanted but due to our previous rental being unavailable due to hurricane damage this cottage was our next best choice.

We couldn't have been happier with the house we had. It was a perfect gathering place for a family reunion, steps away from the beach, and an easy walk to shops for anything we needed. My wife and girls had a great time at the beach house. Loved the old school feel of the home and location. We did not drive a car the entire vacation, but rode bikes and skate boards. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.. We will be booking next year and have friends that want to rent homes on Charlotte St also.

Great. We have stayed at Chequers and rented from Bryant many times. Chequers is a great old school beach cottage with lots of wide porches and rocking chairs. The good folks at Bryant were very helpful.

This was the ideal place for our family. There are some draw backs. The downstairs bathroom could use a 4"x16" shelf around the sink. Shower has no place to put shampoo & soap. Trunk in front room has some sharp metal that need to be fixed. My son tore his pants & scratched his leg the first day there. Not safe for small children. we had A/C problem for three days. Staff was very helpful. Mr. Ed stayed on it He gave us 3 box fans to ease the heat, Heat went from 73 to 89 back to 75 after 3 visits by A/C repairmen. This is documented in exchange of e-mails. Everyone involved with my problem were very courteous & professional. I would recommend this unit to my family members. Geore
