Description

“Hawes Place” is a spacious sound front single-family home that is truly a boater’s paradise. With 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathrooms, two living rooms, game room, and large dock - this home has it all!

As you enter the foyer you are greeted by a large open staircase that adds to the charm of this 1970’s home and it’s wonderful history. Directly across from the stairs is the best hangout room in the house – the pool room. This spacious room is outfitted with a pool table, wet bar, and a fantastic retro poker table. There is a comfortable living space that is furnished with a large Roku TV and the queen sleeper sofa allows this great room to double as a sleeping area for larger families. Pass through the living room to the covered patio with tons of space to relax. Whether you want to grab a private nook to catch some peace and quiet or grill out while watching the sunset, this patio is the perfect oasis. There is an enclosed outdoor shower which is super convenient after a long day on the boat island hoping.

The ground floor of the house also features a garage game room that has air hockey, foosball, and a second refrigerator to help store groceries. Just past the pool room at the end of the hall is a beautifully remodeled bathroom with a walk-in shower that services guests and the nearby Queen guest room. The queen guest room has been outfitted with a Roku TV so that guests can retreat and relax while catching up on their favorite shows. Across the hall from the Queen guest room is another guest suite that has two Queen beds, nicely remodeled bathroom with a shower/tub combo, direct access to the downstairs patio, and a Roku TV.

Once you are at the top of the stairs your vacation really begins! Wall to wall windows and sliding glass doors open to the most magnificent views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Immediately to your left is the primary suite which is furnished with a large King bed, Roku TV, and gorgeous private bathroom that is equipped with a walk-in shower and dual sinks. Across the dining room, down a hall is the fourth bedroom which is outfitted with two Twin beds and a Roku TV. There is a hall bath just outside of the bedroom for guests and has a nicely remodeled walk-in shower.

The main living area on the top floor has a large Roku TV and dining table for those who enjoy a more formal dinner setting. The adjoining kitchen offers beautiful sound front views, a breakfast nook for four, bar seating for four, and a small workstation allows one to work from home if needed. Additional storage and a half bathroom are just around the corner for added convenience.

The entire west facing wall of the top floor opens to allow the sea breeze to flow in and is sure to be your favorite spot in the home. With ample deck furniture this is a fantastic area for entertaining, outdoor dining, sunning, or just relaxing on the huge deck. Savor the magnificent sunsets while you rock all your cares away! Although the grounds are fenced for privacy you still have a wonderful front row seat to overlook all the action on the nearby loop. There is also a public playground just down the street that is convenient for children and younger family members.

This property is incredibly lovely in many ways. The access to the sound/waterway, the dock, the grounds, and its central location make this a gem of a rental. The house itself is neat - its architecture and style are fun, the big deck is fantastic, the huge windows/doors showcase the view and encourage the breeze. But, as other reviewers have noted, it is a tired home. In spite of the recent renovations that have been touted on this review page, there are many things about the home that still need attention. A short list includes - sliding glass doors are very hard to lock, every area rug should be replaced (dirty and smelly, and in one case, a trip-hazard), some of the mattresses must be very old as they are incredibly uncomfortable, lots of nails sticking up around the deck, there's no way to know if you are heating the oven to the proper temperature as the panel doesn't work properly, game equipment is missing or broken, etc. And while not a maintenance issue, it should be noted that there is no beach equipment available at this house - no kids' sand toys, chairs, boogie boards, etc. All of those little things individually are not vacation-altering, but when you're in a property that has so many irritants, you either spend an exorbitant amount of time making a list and contacting Bryant's maintenance team or you ignore them all and just plod through. There should be a way to leave Bryant feedback regarding properties so they have a better understanding of how to care for the home and grounds once you leave (not during your stay, unless it is an acute issue). It is also fair to share that our impression is Bryant does not welcome negative feedback about their properties, and strangely, we felt like we were treated as if we were complaining and we were the problem, rather than the property.While this has nothing to do with the review of the home itself, unfortunately, we experienced some really discouraging and bizarre exchanges with Bryant staff before and during our stay - behavior that should be completely unacceptable from a hospitality business. We have rented properties from Bryant for many years, but our trust has been severely eroded after this last stay.

Absolutely loved this house! Our son is in a boat building school and we came to visit him. We brought a boat with us and the dock was awesome! We love coming to this area and do so often, this is one of the favorite houses we’ve rented! Loved the layout and its uniqueness! The views are spectacular! Can walk to shops restaurants ect! Love walking the loop and it’s close to that as well. Only downside for us is no dogs . We will definitely be back! It was just my husband and myself but so much space we will bring the family back to enjoy! We LOVED this house! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home !

We were there for our son’s UNCW graduation so the entire family was able to stay under one roof. The locations was very convenient to walk to the beach, restaurants and bars and we enjoyed walking “the loop” for exercise! Very spacious inside with pool table and other “toys” downstairs, but the real bonus for us was the large deck overlooking the inland waterway and the dock for watching the boats go by. Well equipped kitchen and lots of seating all over the house. All in all a fantastic stay!

This couldn't have been a better location to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday. The location is perfect. The house is a bit dated but we were good with that. Felt like I was staying at grandma's. Highly recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in Wrightsville Beach!

We rented the house for the location, deck & dock (+ boat slip). Thankfully, the bathrooms have been remodeled & are very nice/clean. The rest of the house is in need of a lot of TLC & overall updating, as we gathered from the pics. I would recommend for location & outdoor space.

The location of this property is perfect!! The house was also set up perfectly for our group. The downstairs with the pool table, air hockey, foosball and poker table along with bedrooms and bathroom was perfect for the five college kids we took. There was plenty of seating for everyone to do things together. The furniture and decor are showing their age but other than that it was a great property to rent!!

Great Location - House needs work

Overall the experience left a lot to be desired. It is an excellent location and great views and the house was the right size to accommodate our family. However, when we arrived we noticed that there were several maintenance issues that should have been addressed prior to our arrival. There was a vent downstairs that was off of the wall sitting in one of the chairs by the pool table, there appeared to be blood smears on the wall and the fridge in the garage, the wall paper was ripped in one of the guest rooms pretty significantly, the internet and the cable was not working when we arrived. There was a door knob missing from the cabinet under the sink and there was a second stove that didn't work at all. There were signs everywhere that if you touched any of the cords for the tv or wifi there would be a $200 fine which seems pretty ridiculous. There was something that looked like BBQ sauce smeared all over the internet router. I called to report the internet issue and sent photos to the property management company of all of the damages we identified a the time of arrival (12 photos). They sent someone out to look at the wifi and cable issues - that person show up and then left without notifying anyone so I had to call back to determine if the issues were fixed and eventually it was.

Our maintenance was able to get the internet and cable back up and running that day - which is why there are signs in the first place to discourage guests from unplugging cords causing these issues. The owner has completely remodeled all the bathrooms, replaced carpets, and is on her way to remodeling the kitchen in the future so we are very excited for all the upgrades coming up at the Hawes property. This house was truly a mixed bag of good and bad. It is an older house, which we knew when we rented it, but it has the feel of the owners completely giving up on it. The kitchen and bathrooms have been updated and are very usable. All the bathrooms have walk-in showers, which was important for our senior citizen. The rest of the indoors was less comfortable. It seems like the entire extended family has dumped its old furniture there, and it is jumbled. The upholstered furniture just seemed dirty. The plethora of knick-knacks and abundance of mirrors created sensory overload. The kitchen ware was completely disorganized and thrown into cabinets randomly, and there is way too much of it. The thermostats for upstairs and downstairs were backwards, which was manageable once we figured it out. This should be information included upon check-in and posted at each thermostat. The outdoor space is great, but the deck is in desperate need of power washing (or replacing). As for cleanliness, the bathrooms were spotless, the kitchen pretty clean, but the downstairs bedrooms did not appear to be cleaned at all. The rugs are all so old I'm not sure adequate cleaning is possible. The management company is very responsive and professional, but some problems just require owner attention.

We had an amazing time! If your an outdoor living type person this house is absolutely amazing. We spent every second outside except to sleep. The boat dock was amazing. We brought our boat and fishing poles and the kids were in heaven. We never even made it over to the beach. We will stay again!

Our vacation was planned in the fall to take my 80 year old step father fishing with the family consisting of 7 adults and four children 2,3,4 and 8 years of age. The house is huge and accommodates a large group. If you plan to take small children, take a long baby fence to cover the rails on the stairs. Extremely dangerous! The rails have space between them a small adult can slip through accidentally. If we had not brought a flexible play yard that we could connect to the rails we would have made the children live downstairs for the whole week. That would have been miserable. This is not a house for small kids. Other than that, it is a nice place. We loved our family time there.

Celebrating husbands birthday with a few friends. The best part of this rental is the outside deck, new pier and view. If you are looking for luxury inside, this is not the home for you. Updated kitchen but the home needs some TLC. Maybe due to the storm last September but many of the sliding glass doors to the porch were not functioning and there was mold on the master ceiling as well as the master bath window and wall. We live locally so we are aware of the wear and tear that occurred during the storm but there were things that obviously need repair. If you have a large group and a boat or just enjoy looking at the sound and will be spending your time outdoors the other issues could be overlooked.

Staying here is like staying at your grandma's house at the beach. Dated yes, but some funky furniture, lamps, artifacts etc. Where else can you see a bras elephant with a glass bowl on its back. The deck is very cool and the floating dock puts you actually on the water. We played pool, air hockey and the two full size refrigerators withe the ice machine worked out great. We had some maintenance items which Bryant worked on immediately, they were very responsive. You have to roll with it a bit because it is a dated place but if you do you will have a great time.

This house is in a fabulous location on Wrightesville Beach. The dock on the waterway is new. We spent the whole weekend outside on the water. The house is large; though quite old and dated. The air conditioner broke, so check and make sure it has been fixed before renting. Bryant was very responsive to the air conditioner issue and offered to move us to a different house. We chose to stay because the outdoor space at this house is amazing....the inside not as much.

This is a nice house, but the outdoor space is what sold us! The indoors is clean although I worried as my 8 month old crawled on the "rug" in the family room. It is old and tattered and didn't look too clean. The kitchen is huge, but we had trouble finding thins we needed to prepare a meal. The master bedroom does not have enough dresser space to unpack. The bathrooms all need an overhaul. I know it's a beach house and I'm ok with that, so it wasn't a deal breaker for us. The house has a lot of space and is convenient to the beach and pier. Can be quiet noisy, though as it sits right beside the bridge coming onto Wrightsville Beach. If you're coming to go to the beach and swim in the waterway and not looking for a 5 star resort, this is a your house!

We rented this property for a family gathering. The house is in a great location - can walk to so many places. The price is steep, but we figured worth it to be near the beach and amenities. And then came all the add-ons!... I have never rented a place where there were not towels OR BEDDING! For an additional couple hundred dollars they would have had the beds made for us! And then we were surprised to see a charge on our credit card for an additional service fee that was not in our original contract paperwork. Also, the kitchen is huge, but has the worst selection of pots, pans and utensils! If you're really looking location, size, fun outdoor space - it's a good place.

We do include linens with stays of 5 days or longer, but still allow guests to choose to bring their own on shorter stays. The house was excellent. It has a pool table and game room with foosball and air hockey tables. It has a nice kitchen and plenty of bathrooms. It has a dedicated ice maker, which is awesome.

The pier is huge. It has a gazebo for shade and ample seating. It's right beside the north bridge so you can people watch runners all day. You can see the boats and they usually go by slowly because the bridge is a no wake zone. It has a sink and tons of lighting.

However the simk and lighting in the pier didn't work. Also the wifi was out all weekend.

Still, I'd stay there again.

The house is amazing! We slept 14 people comfortably. It is within walking distance from most of the restaurants on Wrightsville Beach. The ONLY downside was that there were no cleaning supplies or trash bags so make sure you bring your own.

The house was clean but the bathrooms need to be updated. The hardware in the showers barely worked and seemed broken. Check in is entirely too late in the day.Definitely recommend just beware of the bathrooms

Liked the layout but just too many tschotskis in this house! Frogs and fancy glass everywhere. Needs a deep clean and minor maintenance, ie broken blinds, dishwasher dispenser not working, burnt out light bulbs, lots of ants showed up with cold snap but exterminator sent pronto at least. Kitchen needs better organizing too, such a scattering of everything.
But was comfortable and my grown kids enjoyed fishing on the lovely new dock while the grandkids enjoyed the game room, one even fixed the non working air hockey table. Would stay again if cleaned better and lots of unnecessary stuff removed such as old shower curtain stuffed in a drawer and broken high chair in kitchen closet and too much glass sitting everywhere gathering dust. Did like keypad for all to use with code and location and dock and comfortable beds.

Beautiful place, but the house was pretty gross. There was mold in the kitchen ice maker and the downstairs bathroom. The house has a serious ant problem
that needs to be addressed. There were ants in the kitchen every day and also in the master bathroom. There was trash in multiple bathrooms upon arrival and trash around the downstairs outside seating area. Also, lots of trash and ants around the gazebo area on the dock. And last but not least were all of the cigarette butts around. For what you are charging in rent, your company truly needs to clean the properties 10 times better.

Been going to Wrightsville for over 40 years. This is the best home we have rented for our family. It has everything you would want: dock for boat; swimming off dock; fishing off dock;beach 2 blocks away; and lots of room for our expanded family. Love this place and will be back.

We rented the house for a non-profit event we had as well as a retreat for our company. When we arrived the house was clean and linens/towels were there for our convenience. It was the perfect location, as it is right in the middle of everything. We were within walking distance of everything we did last weekend. This was a plus because parking in Wrightsville Beach is not ideal. The house has great outdoor entertaining space; which we enjoyed after our event on Saturday. Our overall stay was fantastic and we will definitely rent this house again!

Amazing stay. The perfect house for a large group. Fun fishing on the dock. Outdoor dining was beatiful on the deck and the gazebo which is lit at night.
